Have you heard of the expression the only way is through! (or the only way out is through) 🤕.
To me, that is the ONLY way to manage emotions, or indeed anything in life ⚠️.
There is a lot of talk from professionals 👩🏽⚕️ how it is important to regulate emotions. Personally, I believe only heartless and insensitive can “regulate” emotions. Our hearts do not have a tap that we can open and close according to one’s whim 💔.
It is not just semantic when I say that instead or “regulating” emotions, we can only “manage” them 👩🏼💼.
It’s a little like making a distinction between a “lion tamer” and a “lion handler”. You can’t tame something as wild as a lion, and one cannot tame emotions. Especially if they are as intense and intrusive as they can be 🎪.
And exactly because these feelings are so strong and wild we have to face them head on 🤷♂️.
However, we cannot always have a “meltdown” ⛔. Not because of other people. Who cares how they handle our outbursts? We should try and avoid public breakdowns because they are so debilitation. To not meltdown is simply an act of self-love 🥰.
Hence, we have to manage the time that it takes to get from where we are 🏃🏽, to where it is safe to handle our emotions. Where a meltdown is replaced by a soothing act of self-therapy: Letting Go! 📤
Therefore, when talking about emotions, I will always tend to share 🔗 my coping strategies for things like:
- Knowing ourselves, reading the signs and noticing triggers
- Handling a crowd when it’s getting too much
- Exit and Emergency Exit strategies
- Managing those around us
- Letting go – The only way out is through it!
Hopefully, some of these tips will be helpful to someone. If not, it’ll be fun to write anyway … 😁
